Cell Phone Use In The Classroom

When the cell phone became very popular with students more and more schools started to ban them. They banned them for several reasons. One was they were afraid that it would cause a distraction to the students and the teachers. Another reason schools banned cell phones was because they were afraid that students would use them to cheat on tests. But now this is starting to change. More and more schools are starting to lift the cell phone ban. School boards are starting to realize that students don't just use their cell phones for txting. They also use them for internet access and for downloading videos and music. Maybe students can be more involved in their work if they get to use the technology that they are familiar with. Also teachers can become more aware of the latest technologies out there and see how they might benefit in the classroom.

This website discusses the use of cell phones in schools. It discusses the pros and cons of using cell phones in the classroom.

The Use of Flip Cameras

In the classroom there are so many technological devices that teachers and students may use, but one new device is becoming a big hit. Flip cameras are one of the newest things being introduced in the classrooms. Now people might be thinking what is the big deal. It is just a another new camera. The reason why this camera is such a hit with schools is because of the simplicity of it. This simple little camera can shoot video and take pictures with just a click of the button and can be instantly imported onto a computer. Another great thing about this camera is the size. If students or teachers would like to make a video for the class they don't have to lug around a huge recording camera. They can just carry this little camera in their pocket.

This website discusses different uses of technology in the classroom. There is one section where it discusses the flip camera used in the classroom.

Students and Laptops

Over the years the use of computers has increased tremendously. For years schools provided the students with computer labs, but now that is changing. More and more students are now using their own private laptops instead of using the computer labs. By noticing this change more and more schools are deciding to make the switch and provide students their own laptops for school. There are different opinions on whether this is a good idea or not. Some people believe that by providing students with their own laptops they don't have to purchase books and they will be more efficient with technology. On the other hand people believe that students might lose the one to one communication with the teacher if they just rely on their computers.

This website has an article that discusses about the state of New York who is trying to give every student a laptop and what they hope to accomplish.

Smart Boards

At my level one field experience I have watched by kindergarten class work with the smart board. I couldn't believe how interactive these young children were with this new technology. Smart boards are one of the biggest hits in the education community. Smart boards is not just another board that you write on. It is a technological device that allows teachers to integrate technology into every lesson plan they teach. It also gives children of all ages the chance to use technology in the classroom.

Here is a you tube video I found that shows a classroom using the Smart Board.
